FOLK CITY GOES TO THE MALL

“Can you bring Folk City to Ayala?”  said the text message that our CEO got one morning.

Folk City’s first run was last April 5 at Handuraw Events CafĂ©. It was a fun gig with artists playing delicious live pop digital rock electro lyrical folk music. There was indeed intention to bring Folk City to other gigs as well but getting an invite from one of the major malls in the city after the first run was pleasantly unexpected.

So exactly a month later, May 4, 22 Tango Records brought Folk City to Ayala Center Cebu. They gave us a sweet little spot at the fountain area in The Terraces situated between Red Box and La Tegola and it couldn't have been any more perfect.

Here's WOMB kicking off the night!
Triphop trio Womb kicked off Folk City. People started sitting in the chairs provided in front of the mini-stage and even filled up a little bit of the stairway.

Folking up with Martina San Diego and the band.

Newbie folker A ldwin of Soulstring accompanied by Anjelo Calinawan.

Eastcoast Bisdak Martina Sandiego was up next, followed by Aldwin Rondina of Soulstring – a newbie folker. EllaMelendez folked up next where she said  “I felt like I was performing in a mini amphitheater because of the people sitting on the staircase.” Charming, charming indeed.

And we have Ella Melendez!

Mallrats or The Labrats?

Finally Folk City’s last performance was from the experimental musical duo - The Labrats. These two never fail to catch the attention of first time listeners & watchers because of their gadgets and their style when playing live which usually includes audience participation.

Yep, Folk City’s folkers definitely didn't play the folk your parents listened to!

Meet the happy Folkers of Folk City!

We’re definitely doing Folk City again and we hope you guys could catch the next one. To keep updated with all our events, like our Facebook page at facebook.com/22tangorecords or follow us on Twitter at twitter.com/22tangorecords.

WONGGOYS HOMECOMING: VACATION EAT-JAM-LOVE

Eat. Pray. Lo-- Oh, wait. Let me repeat it again. Eat. Jam. Love. I beg to forget about the whole Julia Roberts movie quotes and whatever floats your boat. The boys are back— and they’re not kidding at all!

After the send-off party and months of hiatus, the Wonggoys are back for a good summer break here in Cebu. The boys, William and Kyle, who are studying in Northwood University in Florida, gave their sudden adjustments to a whole new environment, “At first it was hard. We were adjusting to the whole "American" culture and the beautiful blonde girls. The food started out great but ended up to be the same thing every week. The people in our school were friendly but we didn’t get close to some of them until the later months.”

Being away from their loved ones seems to bother the boys.  Maybe that’s the reason why the Wonggoys made videos from their Facebook fan page. They admit that they missed their family and friends so much.  “But if food would be considered a person then we'd miss him the most”, the boys added.  In order to beat nostalgia, the boys managed to buy guitars a week and performed in front of the students in Northwood was the start.  “Having close friends to hang out with, talk to, and ever jam with also helped a lot.”

Music is an outlet of expressing emotions.  Writing and composing are one of these elements. “Kyle and I have been trying to come up with melodies and guitar riffs to give to Gabe when we get back”, William said. The boys haven’t been communicating with Gabe that much since he is busy with his TV series project, “Antigo”.

William and Kyle will be going back to Florida on the 21st of August to continue their studies BUT, before they will leave the South Side, the Wonggoys will definitely have lots of gigs lined up this summer. There will be more awesomeness and love for the Wonggoys fans. Their vacation break helped them explore their creativity in making music. “The break has given us time to experiment on new sounds that will give an edge to the songs we're gonna write soon. We want to surprise everybody with the new things that we're gonna come up with so you guys should watch out.”

This will be the first thing that the Wonggoys will do as soon as they will come back to Cebu: “EAT ,JAM ,LOVE.”

“SEE YOU CEBU PEEPZ!!!!”

DON'T JUST STREAM, OWN IT!

The power of the internet can always lead to something; connecting friends all over, sharing thoughts to the world and be heard or just finding the right music for you. Since the rise of music-streaming services listening to music online has never been this easy.

We at, 22 Tango Records, have made available some of our released singles for online streaming. But based from the feedback we received, supporters of our artists actually want to have their own copy of the singles – those who could not wait for the full album release that is.

So we've decided to re-release the singles from debuting artists Ella Melendez and Womb plus the latest single of musical brothers Wonggoys.

Singles due for digital download release are:
Flying – Ella Melendez
Good – Womb

Soon available for purchase on iTunes US, Bandcamp, CDBaby & Amazon!

Streaming is fine, but we all know, owning it is absolutely different.

Don't just stream the music, OWN it!
